non-profit board or committee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">Persons who are not <strong>authorized by law<\/strong> to administer an oath of office should not provide this service.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">For more security, and to deter election fraud, we can check voter ID and notarize <strong>election ballots<\/strong>.\u00a0 Absentee and mail-in voters can meet with a notary before mailing in their notarized ballots.\u00a0 The ballot should be designed to include a notary certificate at the bottom.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Petition\"><\/span>Petition<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">We can notarize an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/election-petition-affidavit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>affidavit of a petition circulator<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, a petition for a candidate, a candidate&#8217;s acceptance, or a petition for recall, <strong>initiative<\/strong>, or <strong>referendum<\/strong>, under Colorado CRS Title 1 Election Laws.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">It is important that a petition is completed and notarized correctly to avoid rejection or disqualification.\u00a0 A notary should learn and follow the Colorado election laws in the training at <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coloradosos.gov\/pubs\/info_center\/training.html#notary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colorado Petition Affidavit Training<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">Note: local, <strong>municipal<\/strong> and <strong>county<\/strong> elections may have different requirements for notarizing a petition. \u00a0For <strong>Colorado Springs<\/strong>, <strong>City Charter<\/strong> section 12-30(b) defines the procedure for notarizing an <strong>affidavit<\/strong> of a <strong>petition circulator<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">For a document description, a notary may want to note the initiative number, section number, and the number of <strong>signatures<\/strong> listed on the petition in the <strong>notary journal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Acceptable_Identification_for_Petition_Circulators\"><\/span>Acceptable Identification for Petition Circulators<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">Forms of acceptable <strong>identification<\/strong> for a <strong>petition circulator<\/strong> are defined in the Colorado election laws at CRS 1-1-104 (19.5).\u00a0 They include several different forms of identification, that are not acceptable when notarizing other types of documents.\u00a0 See the Colorado election laws for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/olls.info\/crs\/crs2025-title-01.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">acceptable identification list for petition circulators<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Neutral_and_Impartial_Notary\"><\/span>Neutral and Impartial Notary<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">The notary should be <strong>neutral<\/strong> and <strong>impartial<\/strong> and provide notary service to all of the <strong>public<\/strong>, regardless of the <strong>political party<\/strong>, political views, religion or personal beliefs or opinions.\u00a0 To avoid a conflict of interest, the notary should decline to notarize for a <strong>candidate<\/strong> if the candidate is a <strong>family member<\/strong>. \u00a0The notary should decline to administer an <strong>oath of office<\/strong> for an elected officer or public official if the officer is a family member.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Presidential_Oath_of_Office\"><\/span>Presidential Oath of Office<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">The <strong>Presidential <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/oath-of-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">oath of office<\/a><\/span><\/strong> is defined in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abclegaldocs.com\/blog-Colorado-Notary\/u-s-constitution-bill-of-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Constitution<\/a><\/strong><\/span> as follows:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"left\">\u201c<em>I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I
