\"ColoradoNew Colorado Driver’s License Design<\/h1>\n

In April 2016, Colorado DMV<\/strong> began issuing a new design for the driver’s license<\/strong>, instruction permit, and identification card.<\/p>\n

A pilot program was completed in March in Littleton, Aurora, and Frisco.<\/p>\n

The fee for the new card will not change.\u00a0 Valid driver licenses, instruction permits and identification cards with the old design can be used until their expiration date<\/strong>.
\n<\/p>\n

The card design includes an entirely new format and enhanced security<\/strong> and safety<\/strong> features, including laser-engraved<\/strong> information in grayscale, as well as new card material.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Front Side Features<\/span><\/h2>\n

On the front side, the background image features Mount Sneffels<\/strong>, 14,158 feet, in the San Juan Mountain Range, in southwest Colorado, between Ouray and Telluride,\u00a0 It is the 27th tallest mountain in the state.<\/p>\n

It uses blue, yellow and green coloring.\u00a0 A large \u201cCOLORADO\u201d is across the top of the card, with \u201cUSA\u201d and the Colorado border in the color that corresponds to the card type:
\n Green<\/strong> for a Driver’s License and Instruction Permit, or Red<\/strong> for an Identification Card.<\/p>\n

The layout of the design corresponds to card holder\u2019s age:
\nHorizontal layout for an Adult or vertical layout for a Minor (under 21 years of age).<\/p>\n

The individual photo, in a semitransparent window, is in black and white, with the document type, name, date of birth, and other information laser engraved in grayscale.\u00a0 Raised print is used for specific individual and license information.<\/p>\n

A star<\/strong> on top right indicates REAL ID<\/strong> compliance.\u00a0 This allows the card to be used to enter federal buildings and for air travel.\u00a0 For more information from the Department of Homeland Security<\/strong> (DHS<\/strong>), see REAL ID Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n

An organ donor<\/strong> election is designated by a heart<\/strong> symbol in grayscale with Y in the middle.
\nMilitary veterans<\/strong> may choose to have military or Veteran on their card, laser engraved in black.<\/p>\n

\"ColoradoBack Side Features<\/h2>\n

On the back side is a primary image of the Colorado State Capital<\/strong> building, with a snowflake-like design, in blue and green coloring.<\/p>\n

Standard and 2D bar codes are used.\u00a0 There is a metallic \u201cC\u201d from the Colorado state flag and the logos<\/strong> for the State of Colorado and Department of Revenue.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Temporary Card<\/span><\/h2>\n

Persons obtaining a newly-designed card in an office will receive an updated temporary<\/strong> paper document with an image that resembles the card in a removable section.\u00a0 The foldable temporary document will be valid for 30 days<\/strong> to allow for the physical card to be produced and mailed.<\/p>\n

\"ColoradoColorado Road and Community Safety Act (CO-RCSA SB13-251)<\/h2>\n

Senate Bill 13-251<\/strong>, the Colorado Road and Community Safety Act<\/strong> (CO-RCSA<\/strong> SB13-251), authorizes the issuance of a Colorado driver license, instruction permit or identification card to individuals who either cannot demonstrate lawful presence<\/strong> in the U.S. or can only demonstrate temporary lawful presence in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Individuals issued driver licenses, identification cards and instruction permits under CO-RCSA will receive a similar design.\u00a0\u00a0 The card will contain a black box<\/strong> above the photo stating \u201cNot Valid For Federal Identification, Voting or Public Benefit Purposes<\/em><\/strong>\u201d.\u00a0 The card will not have a star indicating REAL ID<\/strong> compliance.<\/p>\n
