style=\"text-align: justify;\">If the Russian language document is going to a foreign country, such as <strong>Russia<\/strong>, the notarial certificate must be in <strong>English<\/strong>.\u00a0 That is because the notarized document will need to get an <strong>authentication<\/strong> certificate (<strong>Apostille<\/strong>) or <strong>certificate of magistracy<\/strong> attached by the Colorado <strong>Secretary of State<\/strong> (<strong>SOS<\/strong>).\u00a0 The SOS requires the notary certificate to be in English.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The customer must be able to tell the notary which type of <strong>notarial certificate<\/strong> to attach.\u00a0 A <strong>jurat<\/strong> is used for a sworn <strong>oath<\/strong> or <strong>affirmation<\/strong> to attest that the contents of the document are <strong>true and correct<\/strong>.\u00a0 An <strong>acknowledgment<\/strong> is used when the customer acknowledges that he\/she has read the document, <strong>understands<\/strong> the purpose, and is signing the document <strong>voluntarily<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The notary must check for <strong>satisfactory ID<\/strong> and be able to communicate with the customer in English or Russian, without using a <strong>translator<\/strong>.\u00a0 The notary checks ID, <strong>willingness<\/strong>, and <strong>awareness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cyrillic_Alphabet\"><\/span>Cyrillic Alphabet<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since Russian uses the <strong>Cyrillic<\/strong> <strong>alphabet<\/strong>, not the <strong>Roman<\/strong> <strong>alphabet<\/strong>, there may be a problem with a name or signature written in <strong>Russian<\/strong> if the form of ID is written in English.\u00a0 The customer must know if the document recipient will accept a printed name or signature written in Russian or English.\u00a0 For example, in Russian, the name <strong>Vladimir Putin<\/strong> is <span id=\"result_box\" class=\"short_text\" lang=\"ru\"><span class=\"hps\"><strong>\u0412\u043b\u0430\u0434\u0438\u043c\u0438\u0440 \u041f\u0443\u0442\u0438\u043d<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If the customer has a Colorado <strong>driver&#8217;s license<\/strong> for ID, the printed name and signature would need to be written in <strong>English,<\/strong> so the notary can compare the name on the Russian document with the name on the ID.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I have notarized Russian documents for Russian speaking customers.\u00a0 They also spoke <strong>English,<\/strong> so we were able to communicate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Russian word for a notary is <strong>\u043d\u043e\u0442\u0430\u0440\u0438\u0443\u0441<\/strong>
